UMS Advisory Committee
The UMS Advisory Committee is comprised of more than 50 volunteers who contribute approximately 3,000 hours of service to UMS each year. The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to raise funds for UMS’s nationally-acclaimed arts education program through projects and events described below. Meetings are held every other month and membership tenure is three years.
Advisory Committee projects include:
- Ford Honors Program and Dinner Gala In addition to the concert and presentation of the UMS Distinguished Artist Award, the UMS Advisory Committee hosts a reception and gala dinner at the Michigan League following the concert. Please call 734-764-8489 for more information and reservations.
- Delicious Experiences Throughout the year, friends of UMS host special events in their home where the very best in the art of food and hospitality come together to support the presenting arts. Whether to learn more about food, wine, and the countries from which they originate, or simply to enjoy a wonderful evening out, join us for an upcoming Delicious Experience.
- Youth Performance Ushering Each season, UMS’s Education and Audience Development Program offers daytime performances for K-12 children by the same world-renowned artists that appear on the UMS season. Advisory members help guide children and teachers from school buses to their auditorium seats.
- On the Road with UMS Held in September at the Biomedical Science Research Building (BSRB), more than 200 people enjoyed an evening of food, music, silent and live auctions and netted over $83,000 for UMS educational programs. More information on the September 2007 “On The Road” event will be available in the summer.
Member Duties include:
- Attend at least three Advisory Committee meetings per year.
- Serve as chair, co-chair or active member of one or more committees, sub-committees, or events.
- Assist with committees and events.
- Be an ambassador for UMS by promoting events, concerts, membership, etc.

Here's how it works:
- Sign up for the e-mail list to receive information about upcoming POST events.
- Volunteer to POST for an event and take posters to local businesses, filling out a checklist that will be provided.
- Return your checklist to UMS by the designated date and receive two complimentary tickets.
- Enjoy the performance!
If you'd like to be a POST-er and earn a pair of free tickets to select performances on the 08/09 season, please send an e-mail to umspost@umich.edu or call Sara Billmann at 734-763-0611.
